Abstract
The clinical picture resulting from mastoiditis and lateral sinus obstruction is dependent upon the variation of the pathways for intracranial venous drainage. Two children, in whom this pathological process existed, presented with markedly different neurological signs and symptoms. The right lateral sinus was obstructed in one instance and the left in the other. It was assumed that an incompetent torcular Herophili and a right-sided predominance for intracranial venous blood flow existed in both to account for the marked disparity in neurological findings. The evidence for this interpretation is indirect and is based on the clinical and roentgenographic findings.
