Abstract

The occurrence of a localized proton pathway along the polar heads of phospholipids spread at the air-water interface is detected using a fluorescence method. From the systematic investigation of this phenomenon, we conclude that the protons diffuse through a 2D hydrogen bond network which is a matrix of hydrated polar head groups and interfacial water molecules.
