Abstract

The load capacity of bolted solid timber connections is relatively well documented with guidance on design load capacity available in AS1720. In contrast to solid timber, the shear load capacity and structural behaviour of bolted connections between plywood members is poorly documented and no published guide to design is available. As part of a program of development intended to address this deficiency, an investigation was undertaken to examine the capacity of single bolts loaded in double shear connecting plywood members. The influence of several joint parameters was determined experimentally and characteristic capacities were estimated with reference to Limit State Design conventions.
