Abstract
A theoretical equation for the lateral dispersion coefficient of gas in vigorously bubbling fluidized beds was derived on the basis of the bubbling bed model of Kunii and Levenspiel. Dispersion coefficients for helium and Freon were measured in a 20 cm i.d. fluidized bed of Microspherical catalyst. At superficial gas velocities above 25 cm/sec for helium and above 13 cm/see for Freon, experimental results agree satisfactorily with theoretical predictions. In addition. the lateral dispersion coefficient near minimum fluidization was found to be close to the molecular diffusivity.
