Abstract

The PON (Passive Optical Network) system has merits of large bandwidth, low deploying cost, smart operating and maintenance, high network robustness etc. It is been extending its deployments towards industrial networking scenarios, from traditional public access networking. While for the users from the industry, they pose higher requirements on the network performance, especially transmission latency and jitter. Conventional PON system may not fully satisfied the latency/jitter criterion in the upstream direction for certain industrial applications. In this paper, we improve the latency and jitter bottlenecks of the PON system in the upstream direction by introducing frame-based dense burst allocation technology, and our test results show significant improvements. This work shows that this technology can extend the usage of PON system in the industrial scenario and better supporting various industrial applications.
