Abstract

The use of ultrasound in screening for develop-mental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is wellestablished. Most UK centres undertake selectiveexamination of neonates for those with risk factorsfor DDH or with abnormal or suspicious clinicalexamination, rather than screening of allneonates. Several studies comparing selectiveexamination with screening of all neonates havesuggested a lower incidence of late presentinghip dislocation (after 12 weeks) in screenedpopulations compared with those examinedselectively.
