Also, the Mutual Formation and Red Pine Shale were inadvertently interchanged in the reference to Williams' work, and a reference was omitted. amended sentence (Condie, 1966, p. 634) should read as follows: The following formations, listed from youngest to oldest, are recognized in the western Uinta Mountains (Williams, 1953; Stokes, 1963): the Red Pine Shale (red quartzitic siltstones), the Mutual Formation (maroon feldspathic quartzites and arkosites), and the lower Uinta Mountain Group (white to buff quartzites and feldspathic quartzites). Thin section studies of the Red Pine Shale by the author indicate that red quartzitic siltstone is a more accurate lithologic description than the field description given by Williams (1953). Also, the word Mesozoic should be used in place of Cretaceous and Tertiary (Laramide) (Condie, 1966, p. 632) in referring to the age of regional metamorphism in eastern Nevada and western Utah proposed by Misch and Hazzard (1962).
