Abstract

The Jandaira Formation samples collected in the central region of the Potiguar Basin show a diverse Late Cretaceous ostracod fauna. The genera Cytherella, Bairdoppilata, Triebelina, Paracypris, Fossocytheridea, Ovocytheridea, Perissocytheridea, Protocosta, Soudanella, and Leguminocythereis indicate a marginal marine environment during the Santonian–Campanian. The analyzed material demonstrates that ostracods are significant indicators of changes in the depositional environment and paleoecological markers in marginal marine environments. Key words: taxonomy, Upper Cretaceous, paleoecology, neritic assemblages.
