Abstract

A nautiloid assemblage is described for the first time from the Upper Artinskian of the Shakh-Tau shikhan, including 14 species of 12 genera of coiled and uncoiled taxa. Most species identified in this assemblage were originally described by V.N. Shimansky (Shimansky, 1954; Ruzhencev and Shimansky, 1954) from several Sakmarian and Artinskian open shelf sections of the South Urals. Previously, only two species of Pseudorthocerida were reported from Shakh-Tau, while no coiled taxa had been recorded from the region of the Sterlitamak shikhans. In its taxonomic diversity, the Shakh-Tau assemblage is comparable to the synchronous Zhil-Tau (=Gil-Tau) fauna of the South Urals.
