Abstract

Our aim is to report a case of gingival tissue damage induced by peroxide-based bleaching agent that was treated efficiently with low-level laser therapy (LLLT). A 23-year-old woman came to our oral diagnosis clinic complaining of a painful oral lesion that appeared after dental bleaching procedure using 37% phosphoric acid. Oral examination revealed a white plaque lesion on the marginal gingiva from #11 to #15 and erosion in the alveolar mucosa. The clinical diagnosis of chemical injury was made, and the LLLT (660 nm, InGaAIP, 100 mW of power, 4 J of energy, Flash laser III, DMC) was applied. The improvement of pain and total remission of the lesion was seen after 3 weekly sessions of LLLT. Topical application of Fibrase ointment was prescribed 4 times daily for 7 days. All dentists should be aware of this lesion to prevent their development during dental bleaching. The LLLT was effective in terms of accelerating tissue repair.
