Abstract

The surface of laser-treated titanium specimens shows a succession of dark and white stripes. The surface roughness of these specimens was observed to be a function of the power density of the laser; the hardness of the top surface layers (35 μm) of the laser-treated titanium specimens being greater than that of the deeper layers of the same specimens.
