Abstract

The ν4 fundamental band of CH2NH has been studied by the technique of intracavity CO laser Stark spectroscopy. The short-lived CH2NH was produced in a flow system by the pyrolysis of CH3NH2 at ∼1000°C. The ν4 band origin was determined to be 1638.2976±0.0015 cm−1, and accurate values for the excited state rotational constants were found. The ground state dipole moment components were determined to be μa=1.3396 D and μb=1.4461 D, for a total dipole moment of μ=1.9712 D. Very similar dipole moments were found for the v4=1 excited state: μa=1.3445 D; μb=1.4412 D; and μ=1.9710 D.
