Abstract

High-resolution spectra of SrOD have been recorded using optical-optical double-resonance spectroscopy and laser excitation spectroscopy. SrOD was produced by the reaction of Sr metal vapor and D 2O vapor in a Broida-type oven. The 0 0 0 bands of the A ˜ 2 Π – X ˜ 2 Σ + and C ˜ 2 Π – A ˜ 2 Π transitions were observed and rotationally analyzed for the first time. Combined with the previous microwave data from the literature, the present data were fitted using the usual 2Σ + and 2Π Hamiltonians, and spectroscopic constants were obtained for the X ˜ 2 Σ + (000), Ã 2Π (000) and C ˜ 2 Π (000) states of SrOD. An unusually small OH bond length was obtained for the C ˜ 2 Π state, perhaps indicating that the C ˜ 2 Π state of SrOH has a floppy potential similar to the ground state of MgOH.
