Abstract

We have indigenously developed high power transverse flow CW CO2 lasers upto 15 kW at the Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT). These lasers have been integrated with 3-axis & 5 axis laser workstations for various material processing applications, including Laser Rapid Manufacturing (LRM). We have adopted both dynamic laser cladding and laser sintering approach in rapid manufacturing various shapes and geometries with SS316L, Titanium, Inconel-625 and Colmonoy-6. The deposited material was free from cracks, porosity and other surface and bulk defects. The property of deposited material were characterized using various mechanical and metallurgical techniques. This paper briefly presents laser rapid manufacturing activities at RRCATWe have indigenously developed high power transverse flow CW CO2 lasers upto 15 kW at the Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT).
