Abstract

Approaches to the development of an incoherent laser are analysed. Implementation of such a laser on the basis of noise-like pulse generation is discussed. Fairly high stability of the average output power in such a regime leads to the contemplation of practical avenues to developing an incoherent laser relying on noise-like pulses. Implementation of such a laser on the basis of the fibre-optical platform further poses such requirements as all-fibre design using polarisation-maintaining fibre and adoption of alternatives to material-based saturable absorbers. Applications are demonstrated in which an incoherent laser—a radically new source of optical radiation—is a requirement. Laser layouts are shown, which are close to the desired layout of the incoherent laser.
