Abstract

A method for cutting glass plates by pulsed radiation from a neodymium laser with passive mode locking was proposed and implemented. The method is based on the formation of microcrack channels, followed by spontaneous fracture along these channels. A qualitative model of the growth of a microcrack channel, based on the excitation of an optical detonation wave, is discussed.
