Abstract

Laser photolysis method for direct measurement of the triplet state characteristics of some of the most efficient laser dyes is reported. Triplet lifetimes τ T and intersystem crossing constants K ST for some xanthene and oxazine dyes in different solvents are presented. The positive effect of cyclo-octatetraene and diphenylbutadiene on laser properties is attributed to the reduction in the intersystem crossing constant and not to the quenching of the triplet state of the dye molecule.
