Abstract

In this paper, we present numerical and experimental demonstration about the impacts of the laser phase noise in direct-detection based optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system for access-network transmission. We analyzed the system performance in the presence of the laser phase noise for various orthogonal frequency division multiplexing symbol durations. A significant phase-noise-effect difference between the access-network and long-haul transmission was verified in terms of the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing symbol duration.
