Abstract

We report a new technique for intracavity absorption spectroscopy via a photothermal effect. Deflection of the laser beam within the cavity is induced by external optical excitation resulting in modulation of the laser output and enabling absorption spectra of condensed phase materials to be obtained. We describe the characteristics of the absorption spectra we have observed and discuss various advantages and applications of this effect.
