Abstract

Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) for myopia with nystagmus. Methods Eleven eyes of 6 cases of myopia with nystagmus received LASIK surgery, and were followed up at 1 day, 10 days, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year postoperatively. Results One year after the surgery, the uncorrected visual acuity was better than 0.6 in all eyes, and were better than preoperative corrected visual acuity in 10 eyes (90.9%). The best corrected visual acuity reduced by 2 lines compared with that before the operation in one eye. Three months after the surgery, the residual refractive errors (spherical equivalent) in all 11 eyes were within ±0.5 D, and -0.250D to -0.75 D at 6 months after the operation. No refractive regression happened during 1 year follow-up. The nystagmus was alleviated in 7 eyes and the compensatory head posture disappeared in 2 cases and improved in 4 cases after the surgery. The corneal topography results showed no off-center cutting exited. Conclusion For myopia with nystagmus, LASIK could be done successfully with appropriate patients selection, active preoperative training and suitable operative dealing. Key words: Myopia; Nystamus; LASIK
