AMOS U.S.C.G THE AUTHOR: graduated with high honors from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 1965. During the Spring term of that year he participated in the Academy's Scholars Program, through which selected first class cadets are allowed to pursue a thesis project in lieu of the normal curriculum. It was during this term the paper “Lasers and Communications” was written.
