Abstract
This article briefly summarises the results of the efforts expended so far in the search for a laser beam deflection apparatus and includes descriptions of devices used both inside and outside the laser cavity. A comparison of the properties and characteristics of some of the techniques is tabulated. Considerable research effort has been directed, in recent years, towards finding techniques for accurate directional control of laser beams. A suitable technique would find immediate application in optical computer memories and active imaging and display devices.
