Abstract

In this paper, the restoration of damaged Inconel 718 parts has been accomplished through a laser-based Hybrid Technology. The system has been equipped with a Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) head for material deposition and a nanosecond ablation laser scanner for both worn surface preparation and post-deposition surface finishing. The assessment of the repaired metal parts has been performed through a digital microscope and an industrial 3D scanner with regards to specific KPI addressing both the external surface quality and structural integrity of the restoration.The benefits of this approach have been addressed in relation to industrial use case scenarios.
