Utilizing the high power, radially polarized CO2 laser and high quality electron beam at the Brookhaven Accelerator Test Facility, a laser acceleration in vacuum scheme is proposed. This scheme has several advantages: The configuration of the optics is simple, it is easy to produce a small beam, and optical damage is less important than in other schemes.
