Abstract
This study is a compilation of the initial impressions of Ecuadorian journalism marked by the political pamphlet and violent, political action. In chronological order, it presents the main historical events related to communication and journalism in Ecuador during the 18th Century. As a product in itself, journalism is not an isolated activity, but it depends on political, economic, and social realities, and the struggle for power. One of the main conclusions of this paper indicates that Ecuadorian journalism, as with the rest of Ibero-America, occurs within a process of cultural advancement.
