Abstract

In the noble floor of Barcelona’s City Hall there is a saloon called “Consulat de Mar” (Sea Consulat) which is decorated with pictorial marquetry that completely covers the saloon’s walls and was elaborated between 1958 and 1960. The iconography represents the Catalan-Aragonese expansion between the XIII and XVII centuries through scenes and locations that symbolize events of this historical period. The marquetries were projected by Evarist Mora, a versatile artist from Barcelona, and were executed by Joan Garganté, one of the best craftsmen that the city has had in this decorative art in the 20TH century.
