Abstract

The larval development and microsculpture of the shell of the prosobranch gastropod Epheria turrita were studied in laboratory conditions. The mollusk laid egg masses on the thalli of macrophytes. An egg mass looked like a flattened ring or a spiral, from 1 up to 6 mm in diameter. The number of eggs in egg masses depended on their size and varied from several hundreds up to several thousands. The free-swimming larvae were released from the egg masses 7–8 days after the beginning of cleavage at a water temperature of 10 ° C. The larval protoconch was translucent, the mouth was wide, S-shaped and curved. The protoconch microsculpture was presented by fine granules merging into thin radial costae at lateral surfaces.
