Abstract
Parasitism of the diprionid pine sawflies, Neodiprion excitans Rohwer, N. merkeli Ross, and N. lecontei (Fitch) was studied in northern and western Florida, principally by rearing sawfly and parasite adults from cocoons collected from soil and litter under loblolly pine, sand pine, slash pine, and longleaf pine. The ichneumonid, Endasys subclavatus Say, was an important cocoon parasite of N. excitans; the tachinid, Spathimeigenia spinigera Townsend, was an important parasite of large, feeding larvae of N. merkeli; ichneumonids such as E. subclavatus were important as N. merkeli cocoon parasites; and tachinids such as Spathimeigenia spp. and Diplostichus lophyri (Townsend) [= Phorocera hamata Aldrich and Webber] were important larval parasites of N. lecontei , especially when cocoons were deep in well-drained sandy soils.
