Abstract

In this paper, two large-scale self-healing architectures for fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor networks are proposed and demonstrated. We design branch nodes by using simple optical switches and couplers to reconfigure the FBG sensing subnets if any link fails. Moreover, to increase the number of sensors that could be multiplexed in the structure, we adopt a lxN switch or fiber delay lines of different length to concatenate all the sensing subnets. Finally, we analyse the capacity of the proposed architectures in theory.
