Abstract

The influence of heat flux modulation on the onset of large-scale Marangoni convection in a liquid layer with adsorbed insoluble surfactant is investigated in the framework of a linear stability analysis. Longwave asymptotic expansions are used. It is found that the vibration stabilizes the motionless state: due to the vibration, the stability threshold increases for both monotonic and oscillatory instability modes. The stabilization effect is enhanced by the decrease of the oscillation frequency.
