Large underground showers and multiple muons in association with E.A.S.

Abstract

An investigation on the showers, produced by high energy muons at depth of 580 m.w.e. (metre water equivalent) at Kolar Gold Field has been carried out. We have found that in most of the cases it is possible to interpret the events as electro-magnetic cascades accompanied by high energy muons which are present at the underground level. A few underground showers were found to be accompanied by multiple penetrating particles 3 or more in number with projected linear spread of ⪞ 40 cm.
