Abstract

Using a new constitutive relationship, this paper analyzes the problem of a wedge (or notch) under the compression of a line load at its tip. The asymptotic equations of the strain stress field near a wedge apex (or a notch corner) are derived and solved numerically. The deformation pattern near a wedge tip is completely revealed. An interesting case is the half space acted by a line load, for which the analytical solution is obtained for narrowing sectors.
