Abstract

A large solid angle detector has been built for measurements of the angular distributions of charged particles in photodisintegration reactions. The detector consists of a three-layered, cylindrical, multiwire proportional chamber surrounded by eight ΔE- E plastic scintillator pairs. The detector is described, along with its performance in two photodisintegration experiments and its calibration in a measurement of proton scattering from hydrogen.
