Abstract
AbstractThe reaction of methyl propionyl acetate with formamidine acetate in the presence of sodium methoxide produces 6‐ethyl‐4(3H)‐pyrimidinone (1) in 67% isolated yield. Reaction with phosphorus oxychloride and subsequent catalytic hydrogenolysis affords 4‐ethylpyrimidine (3) in 41% overall yield.
