Abstract

Pixel detectors are proposed for the upgrade of the silicon tracker of the DELPHI experiment (CERN) to be installed for the beginning of LEP200 in 1995. Four layers of 400 000 pixels equipped with on chip sparse readout electronics are proposed to cover the very forward region. The ATLAS experiment proposed for the LHC (CERN) includes a silicon detector for tracking and vertexing (SITV) with the two first layers in pixels. The challenge is to build 1.3 m 2 of pixel detectors equipped with time stamping (at 25 ns) and sparse readout, with the capability to be still operational after an irradiation of 25 Mrad.
