Abstract

Although large-scale engineering geomorphological mapping is an important method in site investigations for new traffic route construction projects, it has only a very modest place in transport infrastructure maintenance management. It should be seen as an useful additional tool in the engineering stability assessment of earthworks, which is currently based on geotechnical and geophysical investigation methods. The geomorphologist must map all geomorphological features and constructional defects that impair the stability of an earthwork and its surroundings. For the application to man-made landforms existing geomorphological map legends have to be extended to constructional symbols.
