Abstract

The recent years have shown a tendency to build bigger wind turbines, and to group wind turbines in arrays in order to obtain units with a higher installed power, and thus a lower cost price per KWh produced energy. In principle, the circular track wind turbine can be built big enough to generate a power of several tens of MW, as much as a large array of big conventional wind turbines. In such a circular track wind turbine the blades are not connected to one central axis, but are mounted on carriages which move along a closed track with large diameter. In this paper I want to explain the principle of the circular track wind turbine concept, highlight some aspects of the design of such a machine and briefly point out our plan for the further development of this concept.
