Abstract

BOSS is a discrete-event simulation system designed for large models of neural networks. Because of the flexibility of its parameters, it has also been used to simulate an integrated-circuit logic array intend ed for picture processing. A test of a circuit of 2700 logic elements illustrates the pictorial inputs and outputs for BOSS simulations. A much more com plex model of a section of cerebellar cortex involving 22,000 synapses and 1,800 neurons of 12 different functional types has been used to demonstrate one possible mechanism by which the brain is able to learn.
