Abstract

A large magneto-caloric effect is reported in a La0.8Ca0.2MnO3 single crystal. The magnetic entropy change (ΔSM) reaches ∼7.25J/kgK for an applied field of 5T, which is very practical for magnetic refrigeration applications. Satisfactory agreement between the theoretical calculations on ΔSM derived in the molecular field approximation and the experimental dependency has been found.
