Abstract
Three-dimensional Large Eddy Simulation (LES) of a non-evaporative diesel spray has been developed using KIVALES, which is LES version of KIVA code. k-Δ model and modified TAB model are used as SGS model and breakup model, respectively. In addition, Interpolated donor cell differencing scheme is employed to calculate convective terms, because a numerical diffusion is occurred in the use of the quasi-second-order upwind (QSOU) differencing scheme, which is recommended in KIVA code. The computational domain is the cylindrical vessel (φ=30.0mm, h=100.0 mm). In the case of fine grid (60×60×200), the CPU time of both KIVALES and KIVA takes approximately 140 h on the workstation to simulate from injection start to 5.0 ms. The computational results show the present LES approach with KIVALES predicts the heterogeneous structure of the diesel spray, and good agreement with both of spray tip penetration and sauter mean diameter is obtained as finer grid is used.
