Abstract

Abstract Large eddy simulation, Lagrangian particle tracking and solid particle erosion modelling techniques are applied to study the flow, particle dispersion and erosion in a 90° duct bend. The erosion rate on the concave wall of the bend is computed from a semi-empirical erosion model that allows a comprehensive study of particle impact kinetics and erosion as a function of the particle-wall interaction model. The erosion rate is found to be strongly influenced by the friction coefficient and wall roughness, with recommendations given for the most appropriate values of these quantities.
