Abstract
An attempt has been made to develop a simpler approximate large deflection analysis of a shallow spherical shell on a Pasternak-type elastic foundation which is subjected to a concentrated load at its centre, since other analytical methods seem to be more complicated. This was applied to the design of inverted dome shell foundations which are sometimes used for carrying at their centre the highly concentrated loads of transmission towers and masts.
