Large bladder stone secondary to Shirodkar cervical cerclage

Abstract

Cervical incompetence is most often treated by the placement of a cervical cerclage. Although lower urinary tract complications have been reported, they are relatively rare. A 27-year-old woman, para 6, presented with hematuria and persistentKlebsiella pneumoniae urinary tract infection. The patient had a history of cervical cerclage placement with her last pregnancy. Cystoscopy revealed Mersilene tape encased in a large bladder calculus. The potential for cerclage migration into the bladder should be considered in women with a history of cervical cerclage placement presenting with recurrent cystitis and hematuria.
