Abstract

Summary Lettuce achenes germinated in the light and dark on the neuroleptic drug largactil and the inorganic amine hydroxylamine hydrochloride manifested disorientation of normal root and shoot geotropisms. The root apices of the achenes germinated on this drug and inorganic amine were freely suspended in the air whereas the cotyledons remained lying on the physical substratum. Thus, largactil and hydroxylamine hydrochloride apparently adversely affected the same endogenous physiological processes) which govern normal root and shoot geotropisms in germinating lettuce achenes.
