Abstract

Objective To study the safety and feasibility of laparoscopic resection of cyst for the treatment of congenital choledochal cyst in children. Methods From 2001 to 2012,167 patients with choledochal cyst were hospitalized in this institution and recruited in this study.Among them,52 underwent laparoscopic resection of choledochal cyst with hepaticojejunostomy to a Roux-en Y limb. And the other 115 underwent open surgery. The clinical parameters including operative time, complications and postoperative recovery were analyzed retrospectively to study the safety and efficacy of the laparoscopic procedures. Results Fifty patients underwent laparoscopic procedures successfully, and 2 were converted to open operation. The 115 patients underwent open surgery successfully. The patients with laparoscopic surgery had longer operative time and more postoperative complications. However, the patients with laparoscopic surgery had less volume of intraoperative bleeding ( 13.28±4.45 ml vs 29.21±9.32 ml),the earlier first gas pass time (2.52±1.12 d vs 3.65±1.51 d),and the earlier first meal time (7.21±1.58 d vs 0.25±2.63 d) compared with open surgery. Conclusions Laparoscopic resection of cyst with hepaticojejunostomy to a Roux-en-Y limb is safe and feasible for the treatment of congenital choledochal cyst in children. Key words: Laparoscopic surgery operation; Choledochal cysts
