Abstract

GI foreign bodies are common in daily clinical practice. The selection of operative or conservative management is a major challenge. On occasion, they can cause complications such as obstruction, bleeding, or perforation that require prompt and aggressive intervention. The current consensus regarding management of foreign bodies is based on anecdotal reports and small retrospective reviews. Therefore, it is of benefit to test new therapeutic strategies that are potentially more efficient. In this case report, we describe a new minimally invasive approach to the management of a sigmoid colon foreign body impaction and colonic perforation.
