Abstract

Study Objective: Uterine fibroids are one of the most common gynecologic conditions leading to abnormal uterine bleeding, chronic pelvic pain and significant pressure symptoms. Several options are available for the treatment of uterine fibroids including myomectomy and hysterectomy via laparoscopy or laparotomy, in addition to hysteroscopic resection, uterine artery ligation and medical therapy for symptom control. Laparoscopic myomectomy is a safe and minimally-invasive alternative to abdominal myomectomy and hysterectomy. It provides for minimal blood loss, no or minimal hospital stay, decreased risk of post-operative adhesions and a rapid return to regular activities. In this video, a stepwise surgical approach to the laparoscopic myomectomy for a symptomatic large fibroid uterus is demonstrated, along with various technical aspects to help accomplish the procedure safely and efficiently.
