Abstract
ABSTRACT Femoral hernias are rare in children, probably accounting for less than 0.2% of all groin hernias. Bilateral femoral hernias are even more unusual. Because of this and the difficulty in establishing the diagnosis in young children by examination, the correct preoperative diagnosis of this condition is rare. We report 2 patients in whom the diagnosis of bilateral femoral hernias was established by laparoscopy. Each patient complained of bilateral groin bulges. The first patient had previously undergone 3 unilateral inguinal explorations for what had been felt to be an indirect inguinal hernia with multiple recurrences, while the second patient had unusually located bilateral bulges. Each patient had bilateral hernias located medial to the inferior epigastric vessels and under the inguinal ligament clearly demonstrated by laparoscopy. Each patient then underwent open bilateral femoral herniorrhaphies.
