Abstract

Ulcerative Colitis (UC) is a chronic remitting-relapsing inflammatory bowel disorderthat requires surgical treatment in 30% of cases at least. Indications for surgery include refractory disease , colitis-associated colorectal cancer, high-grade dysplasia or stenosis, and septic complications of UC. The recommended intervention consists of restorative proctocolectomy with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA) 1 .
