Abstract

This article describes some characteristics of obtained dissimilar materials (titanium and aluminum alloys) lap welded joints using a modern friction stir welding technology. The microstructure and the element analysis of the cross-section of the lap welded joint specimens have been studied. Investigation of the specimen microstructure showed that a formation of welded joint has occurred mainly due to mechanical mixing of titanium and aluminum alloys. A tensile test showed insufficient strength due to suboptimal welding parameters.
